Queensland Athletic League Inc.
Welcome to the official site of the Queensland Athletic League (QAL) ! The QAL organises professional running events across Queensland. Races are run under a handicap system, usually over distances ranging from 70 metres to 1600 metres.
Handicap racing is designed to ensure that every athlete has a chance to win ! Runners are handicapped according to their ability which ensures that racing is close and more importantly exciting for both participants and spectators. While the big gifts offer thousands of dollars in prizemoney, there are many races where the prizemoney is a few hundred dollars.
Registration with the QAL allows the athlete to compete in both local (usually around 10 races) and Interstate events. The QAL has reciprical arrangements interstate professional bodies in VIC, SA, NSW, WA and Tasmania whereby runners need only pay the race entry fee.
The QAL is a not for profit organisation run by a volunteer committee.
Evandale Australia Day event cancelled (Gold Coast Gift)
Updated 2:51pm, Tuesday 24 January 2012
The annual Australia Day event at Evandale Parklands has been cancelled due to continuing heavy rain across the Gold Coast.
Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair, Councillor Bob La Castra, said while the cancellation was extremely disappointing, community safety had to come first.
“The decision to cancel this fantastic event hasn’t been taken lightly but the parklands site is totally water-logged and with the Bureau forecasting more heavy rain for the rest of the week, we have no choice but to cancel,” said Cr La Castra.
“The event takes two days to set up, and while the contractors have been at Evandale ready for a break in the weather – we just haven’t caught a break.
“The reality is even if we could set up and the event were to proceed, with conditions like this, it would be pretty uncomfortable and I reckon families would rather be celebrating indoors.
“We have only had to cancel the event once before in its history but in this case, the Bureau is telling us we are in for more of the same for the rest of the week.
More info will be posted regarding refunds of entry fees in the near future.

Any athlete who belongs to QAL or QMA now needs to join directly with a QA club in order to be registered to compete in QA events. If an athlete wants to compete in QA Track & Field competition they will need to join as a ‘Full Athlete’ which costs $80 plus the club fee.
If an athlete just wants to register with QA for insurance but does not want to participate in QA competitions, they can join as a ‘Social Club Athlete’ for $20 plus the club fee.
So what does this mean ?
If you are already registered with a QA club QAL membership is $50
If you dont want to run in QA competition and only have QAL membership then we have to register you as a social athlete using the QA form (see membership page) so membership is $70 ($20 being for insurance)
